<title>The Green Alternative</title>
<para>Cellularity designs and builds small, silent, solid-state computer systems designed specifically for the SME market. Because there are no moving parts to fail, the equipment is much more reliable; so silence, reliability, and a very small footprint are three significant gains.</para>
<para>Open source software is used almost exclusively and runs on our own user-friendly Linux based operating system. Because we load only the software that you require, the resulting system is lean, fast, and secure. In addition to these benefits there are no licensing issues.</para>
<para>By designing and building all our equipment in-house we are not reliant upon overseas suppliers, which means that you are never waiting for that “slow boat from China” before your urgent equipment can be supplied and fitted. We do not use overseas call centres. All our support staff are UK based.</para>
<para>Our systems are modular in design with the same type of hardware used in both server and client. More modules, or cells as we call them, can be added on the fly to increase server power. The complete system is clustered to increase performance further, and to provide load balancing.</para>
<para>Rather than deploy a server/thin client or server/desktop arrangement we have opted for a server/intelligent client system. The idea of an intelligent client sits somewhere between a desktop computer and a thin client. The benefit of this type of system is that it reduces network overhead whilst maintaining file integrity. By working locally rather than on the server, if the WLAN or LAN goes down then work is not disrupted. When the connection is reinstated local desktop work is automatically synchronised with the server.</para>
<para>Standardising on hardware produces a much more adaptable system which can easily be customised to your specific requirements. We offer two models: the basic system, which is ideal for most small office tasks; and the power system, which can utilise high-end graphics and audio cards. As it too is silent in operation, the power system would be a useful addition to a music studio, or as a digital video system. It is possible to mix and match within a system, as low power and high power cells will interoperate with each other.</para>
<para>Redundancy is built into our systems throughout. No failure anywhere in the system will bring it to its knees. Automatic backup to DVD is integral.</para>
<para>Our systems are inherently safe. Everything runs on 12VDC.</para>
<para>Security is of paramount importance to us. Login is by way of a card. In addition to the usual protection offered by a firewall, antivirus software, and spam filter, with our systems your employees will find that they are unable to download rogue software. They will not be able to fill your storage with MP3s and other unwanted files, which we believe are unwarranted in the workplace.</para>
<para>It is not possible to purchase our systems. We deploy a lease model which includes all service and support. This model has many benefits for you. With one recurring monthly payment you will have a completely managed system installed and operational. A lease model allows you to try a system without parting with a huge amount of cash “up front”. In the unlikely event that you find our equipment unsuitable then you are at liberty to return it. With our lease model you benefit from ongoing improvements to our system. As we continually update our systems, reliability is assured.</para>
<para>As a manufacturer we take responsibility for our equipment, so all equipment which has reached the end of its life returns to us automatically for safe disposal.</para>
<para>Our leased systems are small, silent, secure, and safe. They are reliable. They are modular, flexible and scalable. They are fully and locally supported. They use very little power, and, as they return to us at the end of their useful life, they are above all “green”.</para>
